Filler Pre-treatment and
Post-treatment Guidelines
Pre-Treatment Instructions
TWO WEEKS BEFORE treatment: AVOID Chemical Peels and Laser treatments.
ONE WEEK BEFORE treatment (to prevent bruising): AVOID using aspirin, NSAIDs (e.g., Advil, Aleve, Motrin, etc.), gingko biloba, garlic, flax oil, cod liver oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E and any other essential fatty acids.
TWO DAYS BEFORE treatment: Discontinue use of topical products such as retinols, retinoids, glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, or any "anti-aging" products
TWENTY-FOUR HOURS BEFORE treatment: AVOID consuming alcohol.
If you have a rash, cold sore, or blemish on the treatment area, please reschedule your appointment at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance.
Make sure you eat before your treatment - this will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment.
Come to the appointment well hydrated and with a clean face.
Take Arnica Montana 30C (a homeopathic remedy that can be found in most health food stores) to help with bruising and swelling beforehand - 5 pellets under the tongue.
Post-Treatment Instructions
AVOID touching or applying pressure to the treated area for the next six (6) hours. After that, you can gently wash the area with a gentle cleanser and tepid water.
AVOID strenuous exercise and consuming alcohol for the next twenty-four (24) hours.
AVOID extensive sun exposure or heat for seventy-two (72) hours.
If swelling occurs, you can apply a cold compress to the injected area for fifteen (15) minutes every hour until the swelling goes down.
Try to sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling.
Take Arnica Montana 30C three times a day. Arnica topical gel can also be applied.
Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). The most common side effects include but are not limited to temporary injection site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection so please keep the areas treated clean.
If you have previously suffered from cold sores, there is a risk that Dermal Filler injections near or into the lips can trigger another outbreak. Talk to your provider about medications that may minimize re-occurrence.
Wait at least four (4) weeks before getting a facial or laser treatment.
PLEASE REPORT ANY REDNESS, BLISTERS, OR ITCHING IMMEDIATELY.
